TW Tournament - Monday
4 August 2019 at 23:00:00
In the first round of the singles this morning, the 10am matches were played in persistent rain. Graham Bridges came through a tough first round against Brian Chalklin from Tonbridge BC to go through to tomorrow's second round where he will face former Grosvenor player, and friend of our club, Martin Mapp. Steve Jenner received a walkover and will play C Bailey (Burgess Hill) in his second round game. Current Grosvenor captain Chris Tapp was drawn against former Grosvenor captain and life member Lionel Hanmore in the first round and came off second best. Lionel will square up to J Broomfield (Tonbridge) in his next round.
The rain had passed over by the time the 1pm matches began and Grosvenor's Norman Barton was able to overcome Trevor Verrall of Culverden, who was playing on his home green. Tomorrow, Norman will face former Grosvenor player Duncan Hanmore.
In the evening, defending champions Graham Bridges, Steve Jenner, and Stuart Moaby faced stiff opposition from Malcolm Ward and co. in the opening round of the triples competition. They eventually won through by a single shot to progress to the second round.
